OCAD Book Arts Fair

This coming weekend Holly and I will be participating in the Ontario College of Art’s annual book arts fair. Details below:

Of the various book arts events around Ontario, this one stands out because so many of the design students get involved, share tables and strut their stuff. I find it blows some of the must out of the book arts, with young artists pushing the envelope on creative parameters sitting side by side with masters of the traditional craft, be it printing or bookbinding. The blend of tradition and radical seems to dovetail well in this show. Some of the credit must go to George Walker, wood engraver, book designer and something of a book radical himself, for mentoring many of these students, and encouraging them to step up and out with their own books and prints.
